Article by Amy, September 6 2004

I read what everyone else had to say. I noticed nearly all of them had been fans for a longer period of time...so I feel like I'm going out on a limb here. I've been a Gackt fan for maybe a month, if that. I can't say what everyone else thinks a "real fan is," but to me...a fan is someone who dearly honors and respects a person. Famous or not, rich or poor, alive or dead...it doesn't matter.

I will say I have a great deal of "Oh...my...god! ::Squeaks and falls out of the chair.::" reactions to Gackt, whether by his looks - the first picture I ever saw of him, which made me want to know more about this unbelievably beautiful man - yes, that's right, I didn't know he was real at first...his music - listening to Mizerable after I downloaded it, and just could not believe that one man could have a voice that was so...so...well, I can't precisely put it into words, but I'm very critical of music, and that reaction scared me(I've never been a "fangirl" before)...his lyrics after finding out their translation - One word. Vanilla. ...then, and I thank Webmistress Fran for this with all my heart, I read the translation of his biography that is on her site(if you haven't read it, do so! *-*).

Putting the speechless, occasionally shrieking, scary teenie in me away to move on to another topic...Fans should not - let me repeat this - should not bash each other.
Pardon me, I don't mean to be hypocritical, I admit right now I have done it, but I've come to the point where the screaming, "I want to have your baby," scary-type obsessed fangirls have become no more than a (rather terrifying) irritation, to each of whom I will say right now "You seriously scare me."

I mentioned that I felt like I was going out on a limb - let me mention now that I'm only writing this because I felt sure that I wouldn't get attacked by rabid fans claiming that I am not a fan unless I worship the ground Gackt walks on(Tempting though it is...>.>), or by the "elitists" who claim I am not a fan unless I've known about Gackt as long as they have and own all his cds/posters/DVDs/whatever else it is. I can't stand that - it makes me feel like just forgetting everything about the person I so idolize, walking away and never going back. Please, if you are thinking something to that effect, or are adamantly swearing you would never do something like that - you probably have. Admit it to yourself, if not to everyone else. Admit it, face that part of you, and stop being so rude!

I don't care if you like him for his looks, his music, his intellect, whatever. Just don't go off on someone else - stop and think about it.
What if Gackt saw you doing something like that?
Personally(and this is just an opinion), I don't think he'd like to see something like that. His fans tell him something very important - "You're not alone. We're here for you! We'll support you!" - and in the life he lives, he needs all the (preferably sane)support he can get.

I'm sorry this is so long; thanks for reading(unless, of course, you quit after the first paragraph or so. >.>), and I wish you many, many days/weeks/months/years(take your pick) of Gackt Fan-ness
